It's Time To Lend a Hand to Our Senior Citizens
It’s hard not to get caught up in the daily grind that is our lives. While focusing and concentrating on our jobs, our kids, and our homes, we seem to have forgotten about the people who got us here: ourĀ senior citizens. As much as we like to think we’re on top of things, we need to realize that one day, we’ll become senior citizens too. And it’s time we put more effort in helping them.
So what can we do? First off, as a society, we need to devote more tax dollars and government spending to senior programs and care. With all the wasted dollars being spent on business and companies that “need help” to become bigger and better, there should be more money available for elderly homes, communities, and health care. If someone has been living for more than 65 years, and most of that time was obviouosly spent working and building our society and communities as we know and enjoy them now, they deserve better than a “thanks for your time, but we don’t need you anymore.” They deserve to be taken care of and looked after when it comes to financial and economic issues.
Also, we should devote some more time with them. With all the charity we like to think we give, our time can be the most valuable. Senior citizens need people to know they still matter. That can be accomplished by visiting our own families and their friends. A little time spent with the elderly can go a long way.
Finally, we can offer generosity in so many situations. If you’re in line at a store, let the elderly couple behind you cut in front of you. Trust me, they’ve been waiting in life a lot longer than you have.
