The benefits of home care

Because of continuous medical breakthroughs, people today live longer than ever before in human history. Nowadays, people take better care of themselves and live healthier, which in the end, leads to a prolonged life expectancy.
As today’s population is growing older, the need for senior home care agencies is steadily increasing. Used to their independency, most elderly would prefer to remain in their homes as long as possible, because these are the surroundings they are familiar with, feel comfortable in, and probably have many cherished memories attached to. Being in their home gives them peace of mind, and moving them to a group care facility may lead to depression, and may give them the impression they are going to a place where they are expected to die.
Home care can be a good option for many seniors who are still quite capable of taking care of most of their personal needs. Even with the help of a caregiver they can still make their own decisions. They get up in the morning when they are well rested, eat what they like best, and when they are hungry, watch their favored shows on TV, go out when they feel like it, and go to bed whenever they feel tired. Nobody will tell them any different, and even if these few fundamentals may seem frivolous to the younger generation, to the senior they still represent some independence, a quality of life they valued deeply their entire life.
Assistant living allows the elderly to maintain the power of freedom and self-respect. It is also a less costly alternative to hospital or nursing home care, where all around service needs to be paid for. At a nursing home caregivers and medical staff are always present and need to be compensated, while a senior who is still living at home only needs to pay for the actual time a compassionate assistant comes by to facilitate. Basic caregiver chores may consist of assisting with personal hygiene, cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, replying to correspondence, dispensing medication, shopping, and maybe even some banking.
